The unexpected winner of the Frisian song festival Liet 2009. This band is actually a Pop academy project from Laurens van der Meulen, who has his own studio in the old city prison of Leeuwarden, the new lab of creativity in the Frisian capital. It’s always a surprise with which formation he will show up on stage, but you’re always up for a musical adventure. It Langstme en de Dea – Frisian for The longing and the death – is one of the most exciting indierock bands in Friesland this moment.

This is where the band comes from

It Langstme En De Dea – Wikel

Tekst en muziek: Laurens van der Meulen

Boartsje mar
Mei myn hert

Mar dizze wûne hielet noait mear goed
De wikel bidt ek foar ús lân,
Mar der klibbet read oan myn hannen
Ik waskje de iene hân yn ûnskuld

It Langstme en de dea – Kestrel

Lyrics and Music: Laurens van der Meulen

Go ahead and play with my heart,
‘Cause I’ve lost it to you already,
The cold flame
That’s fueled by lust,
But in my hands,
You’ll find no rest.

So I’m throwing around these darkened glances,
All the sweet has turned to bitter,
God has left the city for a long time,
And forgotten my name.

The sickle is still warm of blood,
But this wound will never heal,
The Kestrel is praying for our land,
But there’s red sticking on my hands.

I’m washing one hand in innocence,
And the other in your blood,
I’m washing one hand in innocence,
The other in your blood.
